Shillong Lajong currently holds the sixth position with 16 points, scoring 15 goals and conceding 14. In their recent I-League encounter at TRC Polo Synthetic Turf Ground, they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Real Kashmir.

Namdhari, on the other hand, secured a 2-1 victory over TRAU at Kalyani Stadium, breaking a six-match winless streak. Despite the win, they find themselves in 11th place with eight points, just one point above the relegation zone, and have one match remaining.

Recent Perfomance

This upcoming fixture marks the first-ever meeting between Shillong Lajong and Namdhari in the I-League. Renan de Souza has been a standout performer for Shillong, leading the team with three goals, including a crucial first goal in a match. For Namdhari, Imanol Arana has been their most prolific player, finding the net twice.

In their recent six league matches, Shillong has won three, drawn one, and lost two, while Namdhari has won one, drawn one, and lost four. The clash promises to be a significant encounter with Shillong Lajong aiming for a strong finish and Namdhari fighting to secure their position in the league.

Prediction

While Shillong Lajong’s recent losses raise a slight doubt, their home advantage, consistent scoring, and Namdhari’s away woes tip the scales in their favor. Lajong will likely control the game and create the better chances. Based on current form and recent performances, we predict a Shillong Lajong FC victory, possibly with a scoreline of 2-1 or 3-1.

About I-League

The I-League is the men’s second-tier of the Indian football league system. It was founded in 2007 as the successor to the National Football League, with the first season starting in November 2007. The competition was launched as India’s first-ever top-tier professional football league with the aim to increase the player pool for the India national team.

Currently, the I-League is contested by 13 clubs. The winners get promoted to the Indian Super League. The I-League operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the I-League 2. Since the inception of the I-League, a total of seven clubs have been crowned champions. Dempo has won the most titles in league history, being crowned champions three times.

The I-League was formed after the 2006–07 NFL season. The league’s first season consisted of eight teams from the previous NFL campaign and two teams from the 2nd Division to form a 10-team league. The league announced a change in their foreign-player restrictions with the new rule being that all the clubs could sign four foreigners – three non-Asian and one which must be Asian.
